I woke up and left my tiny house very early this morning with a drive in the dark to the airport. I had a rough time seeing where rental car returns were and ended up going the wrong way on the road once but several people stopped to try to help me. I eventually got going the right direction and returned the car. Next step, finding Flamingo Air. They had one small check in desk behind a pillar and not so enthusiastically checked me in. Next step, getting on the plane. There was a general waiting area with gates going downstairs. I ate a coconut donut, had an iced coffee and then began to panic about missing my flight. On the board for my flight and gate number said Black Point. I was supposed to be going to Staniel Cay though. When I asked the gate agent she told me those aren’t always accurate!! The boarding time came and went and I began to think I missed it while in the bathroom. Finally our flight was called and another man and I were sent out to our maybe 10 seater plan. Sadly, there was not a big flamingo on the side. I saw the last group of passengers get off and their bags be taken off, the baggage area closed. I let the gate agent know I had checked and bag and she assured me it was probably on the plane 😊
We flew low enough to see the beautiful water to start getting excited about a couple of weeks in the sunshine.
We made a brief stop in Blackpoint before finally getting to Staniel Cay. I could finally relax and Phil was there to pick me up. We took the dingy about 20 minutes to the SV Blue Agave where Anita was waiting.
Some catch up time was in order since I hadn’t seen them in just about 1 year. I also had to meet the little man - Little Dude.
But then Phil and I took the dingy to the original Pig Beach. We didn’t get out after they told me a story of someone being bitten by an aggressive pig. Plus you can see the poop floating in the water. But we did get a couple of photos and it left me wondering what is the big attraction.
On to a brief stop at Cruisers Beach which is just a tiny beach with souvenirs from cruisers and a cool fire pit made from conch shells.
Lunch was a dingy ride back to Staniel Cay Yacht Club. We sat looking over the water eating a mahi sandwich and a strawberry daquiri.
Right there at the yacht club there were a bunch of nurse sharks close enough to touch and put you feet in the water with. This is the spot where they clean the fish so they are used to the scraps. Just banging a knife on the platform gets them to swim over in droves.
That afternoon we lifted anchor and did a two hour saile to O’Briens Cay which is part of the Bahamas National Park. We found a mooring ball and relaxed for the night. Little Man watched the birds.
