Discovering Solvang, California

9 May 2024

The long awaited and planned 50th Birthday trip for Tori starts a bit early for Allison and I went we meet in Santa Barbara, California for a half marathon in Solvang. Our 45 minute drive from the Santa Barbara airport puts us in one of the cutest small towns in America. It is a former Dutch colony and you truly feel like you stepped back in to Europe when you walk down the street. Our hotel was the Hadsten Solvang which is part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton. It was newly renovated and in a perfect location for the race, had a beautiful outside area and gym. We got checked in and went on a walk about town.

All the buildings look straight out of Europe with restaurants on bars on the main strip just a short walk from the hotel.
We settled on the Solvang Brewing Company for some food in the late afternoon because I was going on a 3 hour time change and Allison had a 2 hour change. I got a beer brat sausage torpedo with a Solvang Lager. Both were enjoyed outside in the gorgeous California weather.
We popped in a few knick knack stores on the way back to the hotel but then had a wine in the outside area of our hotel to wind down. We headed to bed early for California standards but luckily it was only after we discovered our return flights were on two different days. Allison was able to fix hers and all went back to well with the world.
